Real Estate Award `Like Oscar'
Nelson Mail, The, 2007-10-17
Kaylene Tasker feels like she's won an Oscar.
The Haven Realty divisional manager is the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand's property manager of the year.
"It's beyond comprehension that I would get this over everyone in New Zealand,'' she said. "I'm absolutely stoked.''
Mrs Tasker received the award at an REINZ conference in Christchurch last weekend. She attended the conference without knowing she was one of three
finalists and the win was a total surprise.
"It's like winning an Oscar - that's exactly what it felt like. It's beyond anything I have ever been in before.''
REINZ refuses to reveal how many people were nominated for the award, which is in its third year and recognises outstanding customer service.
Diane Nelson, former head of the institute's property management special interest group, said an independent judge found Mrs Tasker looked after properties
as if they were her own, looked after landlords and tenants equally, and thought outside the square to solve problems.
Mrs Tasker has been managing properties in Nelson for 16 years, with 160 tenants and landlords currently on her books.
She got into the profession after being made redundant from the banking industry, and talks very passionately about her job. It was "very satisfying'' to
place people in properties and "so, so rewarding'' to visit them and know you'd chosen the right people, she said.
